Home Home on the Range

By Adriene

We are searching for a new gas range. What features do I want in a range?

Here’s my list:

– Must be gas
– Industrial and durable
– Look sleek (I know it sounds silly)
– Double oven would be nice
– Six burners would be convenient (for entertaining large crowds)

Jennair – pro: has a double oven; con: not as sturdy as the others

Wolf – pro: great industrial build, sturdy; con – pricier than the Jennair

Kitchenaid – pro: grill or gridle option in the middle; con – grill would be hard to clean & not sure I really need that option

Thermador – pros: 6 burners! very sturdy, top quality brand; cons – CHA-CHING, quite pricey

Decisions, decisions. My 82 year old grandma just told me to get the one with double ovens. She thinks I’ll really like it. She might be right, but I’m going to take my time in figuring this one out. It’s a big purchase and I’m going to think long and hard about it (which I hardly ever do).

I read Consumer Reports before I made my final decision about what I wanted for the kitchen. I’ll look and see if I still have it and you can read it if you want. You might check the prices at Metro and see if they have what you want. They will negotiate. 🙂

I checked on Consumer Reports too, but they didn’t have some of the brands I’m looking at. What did you end up with Carrie? I’ve heard Metro has great selection. We started looking at Lytton’s.

I have induction. It has even more control than gas. Mine is a built-in cooktop induction with a pop up vent. I ordered it from Lowe’s special order. I have Bosch ovens, D/W (THE quietest DW EVER)You have to come see it. We need to have dinner. I want to learn how to make homemade mozzarella. Mozza, fresh basil, roma tomatoes and balsamic vingegar. YUM.
